One of the great rivers of the west, the Thala flows from the westernmost branch of the Kotthorns in three branches down to the Airendhe. It is normally a fairly tame river compared to the River Abrea, though it has been known to flood significantly in the past.

For one reason or another, most westerners associate this river with lions of some sort; when a boat is caught up on one of the rare hidden sandbanks, it is said to be "in the lions' paws."
