Approximate boundaries of Selessan

Selessan is a broad, fertile expanse of lowlands in the west of Athis. Its eastern and southern borders are sharply defined by the Haidali in the east and the Jadhai and Allato Hills in the south. In the west and north its limits are more indistinct, as it merges in the west with the peninsula of Gallat, and in the north gradually rises to the Stetin uplands.

History[]

Selessan fell early under the rule of polities based in Gallat, and was a part of the various empires and theocracies bearing that name. When the last Gallatene empire collapsed, a regional governor in Selessan seized power and declared the short-lived Despotate of Tarena. This inaugurated an era of near constant warfare in Selessan, and the fifth century RM saw the region largely depopulated. Lying just beyond the Occaran Gates, the region suffered repeated Aitahist attacks in the War of the Empty Throne and the Great Ordeal, culminating in a concerted Aitahist attempt to empty the land immediately after the Immolation

Following the final repulse of the Aitahist armies in the Peregrination, the resettlement of Selessan was a top priority for the government of the Halyrate during the period known as the Restoration. Thanks to Gallatene efforts, and two centuries of relative peace under the rule of the Orders following the conflicts at the end of the Halyrate, Selessan is more prosperous and populated than at any time in its history.
