Ephis (Satar: Land) is a common term for the enormous western continent, stretching thousands of miles from the Kern to the Sunset Ocean, and from the Airendhe to the frozen wilds beyond the Tandok mountains. It originated as the Satar word for the world - on the trackless steppe, no further distinction was necessary. As the Satar expanded into the cradle and their horizons expanded, it became a term applied the area ruled by Satar, and then ultimately to the west of the world. Satar cultural and political influence, in the form of the Karapeshai Exatai, introduced the term to the Einan and the rest of the north, and the scholars of the Sephashim popularized it beyond the borders of that state.
