The Eastern Plague is the deadliest and most well-known epidemic in recorded history. Originating, as the name would suggest, in the far East, it raged from 471 to roughly 490 SR, spreading from Leun to the central countries by 475, and finally reaching the Dulama Empire by 486. Its impact on countries that had not yet been contacted by the known world at that time, such as the Adanai and their western neighbors, is unknown. Though the plague's exact origins are unknown, a long list of symptoms are well known, including fever, coughing, vomiting blood and pus, swelling and intense pain in the abdomen, and a runny nose. Though many were convinced of its utter lethality at the time, actual mortality rates for those contracting the infection are estimated to vary by region to region from a low of 10% to a high of almost 50%.
